The bulk of the collection consists of private and official papers accumulated by Sir Thomas Temple (1567-1637), Sir Peter Temple (1592-1603), and Sir Richard Temple (1634-1697). Included are items concerning commerce and trade, local elections, and parliamentary and religious affairs, especially during the Civil War, Protectorate and Restoration. A miscellaneous collection of papers dealing with foreign affairs comprises items dealing with Bohemia, Savoy, France, and Nova Scotia. Also included are literary and polemical works, including those by Sir Richard Temple, and genealogical materials on the Temples and related families.

Approx. 530 pieces.12 boxes; also, 1 case and 8 folders.
